A Christian Castro
Ok. I know it’s pretty dorky of me to continually blog on American Idol…but I just gotta share this tidbit. This season, I’ve been pretty into what’s been happening week in and week out. And I’ve made it pretty clear to those I know who my favorite is: Jason Castro. Now, I admit, he has a slim chance of winning, due to his narrow fan niche, but I think he’s gonna be a success way after Idol (I’m starting to sound like a crazed fan, but it’s all good).
The purpose of this post? Well, you can imagine that after reading Joshua Harris’ recent blogs on American Idol, I was elated to read this little portion on his latest post about the Shout to the Lord performance on last week’s Idol Give Back special:
Jason Castro’s Church
A girl named Leslie attends the church that Jason is from. She writes,Jason Castro and his family attend my church in Rockwall, Texas. He is a Christian and has asked for prayer because one of the other contestants is either an atheist or agnostic. I was told that Jason Castro encouraged a few of the others to sing “Shout to the Lord” after they at first balked at the lyrics. Just FYI: Jason’s mother gave him the idea to get dreadlocks, and he now uses his look as a way to be able to witness to teens that normally wouldn’t listen. Way to go, Jason!
Now all the more, I want him to win it! If you haven’t had a chance… go check out Jason’s rendition of Hallelujah. As a result of that performance, iTunes saw the largest increase ever in sales of one song as a result of an Idol contestant.
Be sure to check out tomorrow’s Idol…rumor has it that it’s Mariah Carey’s week.
Now I will shamefully go hide in a corner now that I’ve just scared half of you with how much I’m into Idol.
American Idol Top 10
It’s getting tougher to predict who’s gonna get booted each week! But I think the creme is rising to the top… and it’s Josiah Leming! I’m not sure if it’s just rumors or if it’s of substance, but supposedly he’s signed a record deal with Warner Bros.? Pretty crazy yo. I was a huge fan… I hope he does well. Anyways…here’s this week’s recap:
Best of the Week: David Cook with Billie Jean (can i just say how this was probably one of my favorite performances in the last few years… sick stuff)
Worst of the Week: Carly Smithson. She’s got the voice, but losing her appeal.
Surprise of the Week: Michael Johns with his Queen medley. In the immortal words of one Lil’ Mama, “That was hot!”
Voted Out: Chikezie. dang you Kristy Lee!
Random Notes: Is anyone else sick of the crowd? They boo obnoxiously (let them do what they’re paid to do, judge) and they sway to the music in an awkward rhythm, trying to clap along when it’s totally unnecessary. I’ve began to close my eyes when they zoom out to the crowd.
Next Week’s Predicted Loser: Syesha (record: 0/2)
American Idol Top 11
Beatles, again?! C’mon, I love the Beatles, but it seemed a little redundant. I loved last week, because I always felt like a Beatles themed show would be sick. But too much of a good thing is never good
Best of the Week: David Cook with Day Tripper
Worst of the Week: “Cooliosis”, the word Randy Jackson made up. He’s ridiculous.
Surprise of the Week: Jason Castro without a guitar? I thought he’d go through the whole competition with one. He proved me wrong, but makes me a bigger fan every show.
Voted Out: Amanda Overmyer, I thought she’d make it at least one or two more weeks. But I definitely didn’t think she’d last this far.
Random Notes: Does anyone remember Josiah from Hollywood week? I wonder how we would’ve fared in this competition if he were let in. I was a huge fan.
Next Week’s Predicted Loser: Kristy Lee Cook (record: 0/1)
Americon Idol Top 12
Hooked yet? I am. If you’re like me, you get excited for the weekend to be over because you know on Tuesday and Wednesday American Idol’s on. What an amazing concept for a show. It is everything American’s stand for: the underdog, instant fame, living out the dream, and good ol’ competition. Anyways, I thought I’d chime in on this week’s performances and results.

Best of the Week: tie between Carly Smithson & Chikezie
Worst of the Week: Kristy Lee Cook, a trippy country version that ruined the Beatles classic, “8 Days a Week”.
Surprise of the Week: David Archuleta folding under the pressure of being the front-runner
Voted Out: David Hernandez, even though it should’ve been Kristy Lee Cook, based on her horrendous performance. I think the bottom 3 were in their right positions this week. Any one of them could’ve been voted off without much fuss from anyone.
Random Notes: Anyone else really love Jason Castro? I’d buy his album. Last week’s rendition of “Hallelujah” was sick!
Next Week’s Predicted Loser: Kristy Lee Cook, she ain’t got too long to live after killing a Beatles classic.
